India gate | Introducing The All India War Memorial | 2020

India Gate is the All India war memorial in India. The memorial is 42 meter high sandstone arch and located astride the Rajpath, New Delhi.

The India Gate was a part of the work of the Imperial War Graves Commission(I.W.G.C), which came into existence in December 197 for building war graves and memorials to soldiers who laid down in the first World War. In  this time the foundation called as the All India War Memorial.

 The memorial dedicated to the troops of British India who died in wars fought between 1914 and 1919 in the first World war. The memorial bears the names of more than 13500 British and India soldiers killed in the North western Frontier in the Afghan war of 1919.The monument was dedicated to the nation by the Then Viceroy, Lord Irwin.

The structure, called Amar Jawan Jyoti, has since 1971 served as India’s tomb of the unknown soldier. The enternal flame burns day and night under the arch to remind the Nation of Soldiers who laid down their lives in the Indo-Pakistan War of December 1971.

Every Republic Day , the Prime minister visits the Place to pay their tributes to the Amar Jawan Jyoti.The Tomb surrounded by large expanses of lush green lawns, which is a popular tourists spot/ Picnic spot in New Delhi.

During night time , the India Gate is dramatically floodlit while the fountains nearby make a lovely display with colourful lights.

The India Gate is situated in capital of the India. So the place is well connected with rest of India and also with all others Country.

By Air :

The nearest Airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport. The airport connects various national as well as International destinations with regular flights. After reaching the airport, you can book a cab/taxi  and proceed  to The India Gate. The distance between airport and the War memorial  is 15 km and it will take approx half an hours.

By Train :

 By train also you can get daily basis train from the rest of India. The nearest railway station are  Nizamuddin  Railway Station, Anand Vihar Railway Terminal, New Delhi railway station and Sarai Rohila railway station. Also Delhi metro Rail corporation provides daily basis so many metro services from the nearest parts of Delhi like Gurgaon, Noida and Gaziabad.

By Road :

By road you also can come to the place from all over India by your own vehicle or cabs. But some of the nearest important cities direct bus services to Delhi, like Up, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, etc. So every person can easily reach to the India Gate.

 India Gate is a open Place, there are no time restrictions as such. The War Memorial is open all days of the week. However, the best time to visit is between 7 am to 10 pm.

If you want to see the light show in India Gate, you have to visit between 7 Pm to 9:30 Pm.

Best Time To Visit

Delhi  witnesses extreme temperatures. Summers and Winters  are unbearable and monsoon restricts outdoor activities.
